Owens Corning: A Partnership in Bloom

Owens Corning Canada Inc. celebrates its 64th anniversary of operation in the City of Guelph this June. With currently over 170 hourly and salaried employees, this is a busy and caring manufacturing facility. “A variety of glass reinforcement materials in the form of matting and chopped product is manufactured at our plant,” says Charles White, Plant Leader for Owens Corning, Guelph. “These are used in the manufacturing of boats, bath tubs, car parts, building materials, wind energy materials – lots of different items that hopefully make a difference in people’s lives driving sustainability for the world.”

2013 marked the first year of support to Habitat for Humanity WDG as a multi-year corporate   partner. “We made our own hard hats, assembled a team and for three days, worked on the building of the homes on  Paisley Road,” remarks Patty Warner, Human Resources Business Leader at the Guelph plant. “There was such genuine excitement about our decision to support Habitat that we had to turn away employees who wanted to be on the build days last year”, says Warner. Owens Corning’s goal this year is to provide even greater opportunities for their staff involvement as well as see their building products such as shingles and insulation as preferred products for future Habitat builds.  White reinforces the Owens Corning philosophy, “We believe in what Habitat stands for – providing hands on help to families to enable them to have their own affordable home.”
