Dufferin Build

Thank you for helping us raise funds to build homes in Dufferin!

Our first annual Ultimate House Party raises double the amount predicted in planning stages.

On Saturday September 30th, we hosted our first annual Ultimate Habitat House Party presented by DUCA. The event sold out at 200+ guests and raised an amazing grand total of $63,000 which doubled the committee’s expectations.

Bringing the House Party theme to life, the Horizon’s Event Centre was divided into three different areas; the garage, patio and dining area. Both patio and garage room were generously sponsored by Montgomery Homes & Stylin’ Homes. The garage room, decked out in a motorcycle, metal signage and wood pallets felt instantly as though guests were walking into someone’s home garage. The patio was beautifully lit with string lights, and featured patio sets and greenery creating a genuine outdoors feel. Absolute Catering and Event planning donated a delicious meal that kept our guests full and satisfied throughout the live auction. Layne – The Auctionista’s energy and live auction finesse helped to raise a third of the funds at around $18,000! To see pictures from the night and teasers, check out our Facebook page!

News: Planning for Dufferin Build in Progress

With the help of the community, Habitat for Humanity is planning to make affordable home ownership a reality for single-and-dual parent families, people with disabilities and senior citizens, right here in Dufferin County.

“We are currently exploring a number of potential properties that would enable our affiliate to build a whole community rather than one single home,” explains Steve Howard, CEO of Habitat for Humanity WDG. “The need for affordable housing impacts every piece of our society, which means we need to scale up and think big.”

Approximately 10% of Dufferin County lives in poverty, and every one in nine households are living in core housing need. This reality has called for Habitat for Humanity WDG to partner with organizations, corporations, individuals and the County to make a greater impact in the community.

“The County of Dufferin and Habitat for Humanity are pleased to be working together to raise awareness of and address housing needs in Dufferin County,” says Keith Palmer, Director of Community Services, County of Dufferin. “A main theme of the County of Dufferin’s 10 Year Housing and Homelessness Plan is to work collaboratively with local agencies to help address housing affordability. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity will provide even more assistance to families as they navigate the housing continuum.”

In addition to partnering with the County of Dufferin, Habitat for Humanity WDG has formed various advisory committees, including Events and Construction, that have been filled by members of the Dufferin community.

To support the financial aspect of the build, Habitat for Humanity WDG is also planning their inaugural Ultimate Habitat House Party in Orangeville, held on September 30, 2017. Table registration and sponsorship opportunities are now available.

“Our plans for Dufferin require innovation and dedication from our team of staff, volunteers and partners,” says Howard. “Community support on multiple levels is also critical. It takes a community build on this scale – we can’t do this alone.”
